Our Mission

About Seventh-day Adventists

Seventh-day Adventists are Protestant Christians who believe that they should make a positive difference in their community. Seventh-day Adventists base their beliefs and mission directly and entirely from the Bible.

Seventh-day Adventists are people of hope who are committed to promoting the biblical message of quality of life for the present and the future. In keeping with that principle, Adventists believe the Bible teaches the importance of a weekly seventh-day Sabbath of rest and worship and the promise of Christ’s second coming or “Advent.” Each Saturday, Adventists enjoy a 24-hour Sabbath rest from work and school to join family and fellow believers in worship, fellowship, prayer, and communion with God.  Adventists also believe that God wants us to take care of our bodies through adequate rest, healthful diet, and exercise.

Seventh-day Adventists strive daily to develop a closer relationship with Jesus Christ to become more like Him. The heart of the church’s mission is to help others realize the hope found in experiencing a personal relationship with a living God and loving Saviour, and nurturing them in preparation for His soon return.

The Seventh-day Adventist church is a worldwide church with over 19 million members around the world, and more than a million members in over 5000 congregations in the United States.  The Seventh-day Adventist Church also emphasizes education, health care, media ministry, and humanitarian services. The Seventh-day Adventist K-16 school system is the largest Protestant education system in the world.

Seventh-day Adventists accept the Bible as the only source of our beliefs.  We consider our movement to be the result of the Protestant conviction Sola Scriptura—the Bible as the only standard of faith and practice for Christians.  Adventists hold 28 fundamental beliefs that can be organized into six categories—the doctrines of God, man, salvation, the church, the Christian life, and last day events.  In each teaching, God is the architect, who in wisdom, grace, and infinite love, is restoring a relationship with humanity that will last for eternity.

Pastor Giancarlo de Miranda

Pastor Giancarlo de Miranda and his wife Tatiana are both originally from Brazil. He started serving in full-time ministry in 2009 as a pastor’s assistant and literature evangelist on the Big Island of Hawaii.  In 2010 he returned to Brazil where he served as the Academic Dean and Bible Instructor at Instituto de Educação e Saúde de Taquara (a mission college in the State of Rio de Janeiro).  There he met Tatiana, whom he married on September 25, 2011.  In 2012 Giancarlo and Tatiana established a mission training school in the State of Espírito Santo, Brazil.  Hundreds of students have been discipled to better understand, apply, and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. During this period their first daughter, Sofia Ellen, was born (July 8, 2015).

After returning to the United States in early 2017, Giancarlo served as the College Dean of Hartland College in Rapidan, VA, as well as Chair and Bible Instructor of the college’s Religion Department. While serving at Hartland College their second daughter, Giulia Isabel, was born (May 18, 2018).

In 2022 Giancarlo graduated from Andrews University with a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry. Since March 2020 Giancarlo and Tatiana, and their girls have been serving as a pastoral family in the Michigan Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. They consider it a privilege to be part of such a vibrant community of faith as the Cedar Lake Seventh-day Adventist Church family.
